79 Best Subscription Services in 2022

Food subscription box

Introduction

Subscription services have had steady growth over the last ten years. However, when the pandemic hit in 2020, many people turned to have products delivered directly to their homes.

For some businesses, like restaurants, shifting to this business model was a matter of survival. Today, a subscription service is being added to the product offering mix of the largest brands in the country.

I’ve compiled a list of 79 of the best subscriptions services in many categories and offered my take on the best three in each niche.

 What are Subscription Services?

Subscription services provide consumers with a product or service at a predetermined regular interval. While the sharp rise in consumer use of subscriptions was due to the mandate to shelter at home and as an alternative to going to a store with the inherent Covid 19 exposure risk, subscriptions became popular for one main reason: convenience.

For a business, subscriptions allow for the creation of a recurring revenue stream. This not only builds revenue predictability but also builds a loyal customer base.

Here is my summary of many of the best subscription services in 2022 and my top three picks in each category.

A 2019 survey by online grocery, PeaPod, found that 77% of Americans would rather eat a homemade meal than eat out at a restaurant. Subscriptions to meal plans continue to rise. Home Office

The pandemic had two major effects as a result of having to work from home. First, many people needed to learn new communication tools in order to participate in an online meeting and keep in touch with co-workers. Second, the ongoing growth of remote work is undeniable. The percentage of remote positions doubled over the course of a few months in early 2020. Since then, that number has more than tripled compared to pre-COVID and continues to climb.

Adding to this, 2021 was the year of the “Great Resignation” – a year when workers quit their jobs at historic rates. This trend is on-going. Many quit to start their own businesses, do consulting or freelance on services like Upwork. In any case, the following subscription services probably need to be part of your stack.

If you own a business, the number one priority is building a list. There are a variety of strategies to do this but 99% of the time the list consists of prospects’ emails. An email list has been touted as a business’s most valuable asset. It allows you to communicate with your list for free (except for the email provider’s storage fees). Email generates $42 for every $1 spent, which is an astounding 4,200% ROI, making it one of the most effective options available.

53 – Active Campaign

Active Campaign is the email CRM I currently use. I highly recommend it. It’s very inexpensive yet contains all the automation tools anyone would typically need. It’s easy to use and has one of the best support and training teams in the industry.

54 – Aweber

I used Aweber for about 20 years before moving over to Active Campaign. I felt it gave me the best bang for the buck. What I liked most was I could pick up the phone and talk to a live person in their support department.

It’s a toss-up between Aweber and Active Campaign. If you build a big list, the pendulum swings to Active Campaign because Aweber charges a storage fee for each list a subscriber is on whereas Active Campaign only charges you once.

55 – Keap

Keap was founded in 2001. It was known as Infusionsoft until 2019. Keap created the first all-in-one CRM, sales and marketing automation platform built specifically for growth-minded entrepreneurs. Through powerful automation, what took hours now took minutes.

They have over 200,000 customers. In my view, Keap is the most sophisticated CRM and contains the most automation tools although they integrate with 2,500 other applications as well.

Web hosting

Web Hosting

If you are going to build an online business, you, of course, need a website and you’ll need a web hosting company to house your website. While there is a plethora of web hosting companies, it pays to do your research before you select one. Look for quality and features versus price.

56 – Bluehost

Bluehost was picked as the 2021 PC Magazine Editors’ choice for web hosting. You can get started for as little as $2.95 per month. Personally, I’ve used Bluehost for 20 years. What I like most is the ability to pick up the phone and talk to a live support person 24/7.

57 – WP Engine

WP Engine is another popular web hosting solution used on1.2 million websites in 150 countries. It is reasonably priced.

58 – SiteGround

SiteGround is known for its fast loading speed. It’s used on 2.8 million domains. Very inexpensive.

Website builders

Website Builders

So, you’ve selected a web hosting company; now you need a website. Odds are you are not yet in a position to hire a website designer. But, today, there are a number of website builder companies that have many templates. Or, if you want to do it yourself, they utilize simple drag and drop. No coding is necessary.

59 – Wix

Wix is a high-quality website builder with 100 million users. Wix is one of the simplest (and cheapest) ways to create a simple website.

Or answer a few simple questions and Wix ADI (Artificial Design Intelligence) will instantly build a personalized website just for you. Choose your style, change the layout and add any features you need for your business, like an online store or booking system. When you’re ready, go live in a click.

60 – Weebly

Are you a complete novice and just want something easy? Weebly is a simple website builder with an impressive 40 million+ users. It is not the most advanced website builder, but their drag and drop interface makes it very easy to build a quick website.

Weebly was started in 2007 and currently powers millions of businesses on more than 50 million sites around the world. Its powerful tools make it easy to build a professional, mobile-optimized site and grow your business with integrated marketing and advanced analytics.

Graphics

Graphics

Graphics are a necessary component of content on your website, social media, video marketing and emails. It’s essential that you use royalty-free images. If you want to become quickly confused, try selecting a graphic source from the 200+ companies available online. I’ve been there and done that and reduced the choices to just a few high-quality sources of millions of royalty-free images, vectors and illustrations.

62 – Depositphotos

If you are going to use any photos or graphics on your website, you best use ones that are royalty-free. Today, it’s too easy to get a letter from an author’s attorney suggesting a couple thousand dollar settlement.

There are several hundred sources for what are claimed to be royalty-free photos, although some require giving attribution to the photographer below the image. After years of trying one after the other, I settled on Depositphotos.

Depositphotos has 230 million royalty-free images, videos, vectors, illustrations, and music. I use their vectors and illustrations as much as their photos. There are many search filters to help you zero in on exactly what you are looking for.

63 – Snappa

Snappa has 5,000 templates to make creating any graphics projects easy. It also has 5 million stock images at your fingertips. Select a template, add an image and choose from 200 fonts and 100,000+ vectors and shapes and your project can be completed in as little as 5 minutes. You can get started for free.

64 – Fiverr

If you don’t want to bother with graphics yourself, you can get whatever you need at Fiverr for as little as $10.

Not only can you get graphics and designs created by some of the most talented people on the planet, but Fiverr also offers digital marketing, writing & translation, video & animation, music & audio and programming & tech.

A necessary tool for all businesses operating online is an SEO and keyword research tool. Otherwise, you’re shooting in the dark and have little chance of any of your content ranking on Google or any of the other search engines.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn Prospecting Platforms

If you have elected to build a business of any kind, developing and maintaining a steady flow of prospects is your number one priority. LinkedIn is by far the best source for qualified prospects for your product or service because of its precise targeting capabilities. It comes with members eager to learn how to improve and grow their businesses.

But, today, it takes a good 7-8 messages before the average prospect elects to schedule a call or sit in on a Zoom meeting to learn more about what you offer can help their business. This follow-up takes time, money and resources.

But there is a way to automate many of the steps in the process. Here are three LinkedIn prospecting solutions that can automate many of the steps necessary to qualify a new LinkedIn connection and generate interest in your company and product/service.

68 – Castanet

Castanet is an automated lead generation tool using proven technology to connect and engage new LinkedIn prospects every day. An unlimited number of follow-up messages can be created and scheduled to be sent at intervals you choose. All are automated.

Castanet is the industry leader in LinkedIn campaign management with over 2,750,000 new connections generated. It’s the one I have personally used.

69 – Cleverly

Cleverly generates LinkedIn leads by leveraging high performing data from having executed thousands of successful LinkedIn campaigns in every industry to target and engage your most qualified decision-makers, driving them directly into your sales funnel.

First, Cleverly builds targeted and qualified lists of your ideal prospects on LinkedIn. Then they ‍write clear and personal cold outreach messages that actually get responses. Once a connection is secured, they send custom messages to thousands of your ideal prospects every month. Then you’re instantly notified when leads respond for you to close the deal.

70 – Waalaxy

Waalaxy automates your LinkedIn prospecting by sending automated invitations and messages on LinkedIn from lists created on LinkedIn. You can then send your contacts to your CRM or email marketing tool. For those LinkedIn members who do not respond to your connection request, Waalaxy finds your prospects’ emails. Automatically. This then allows you to follow up directly with each prospect via email.

Podcasts

Podcasts

One of the most effective ways to build an online business following is by hosting a podcast. Podcasting has grown drastically and steadily since it began in the early 2000s. In 2022, 62% of the population has listened to a podcast and roughly 78% are familiar with the medium.

Podcast listeners as a group have grown 29.5% in the last three years. There are currently 120 million podcast listeners in the U.S., and industry experts predict there will be over 160 million podcast listeners by 2023. As of April 2022, there are over 2,434,692 valid podcasts, over 64 million episodes.

71 – Buzzsprout

Buzzsprout is the easiest way to get your podcast online and distributed to your listeners. It’s trusted by over 100,000 podcasters. You get your podcast listed in all of the top podcast directories: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Podcast Index, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music, Stitcher, iHeartRadio, Overcast, Castbox, and Podchaser.

With their free podcasting guides, video tutorials, podcasting courses, industry podcasts, and the Buzzsprout Podcast Community, you’ll have everything you need to create a successful podcast.

You can publish your podcast everywhere with just a few clicks.

73 – Transistor

What is needed to start a podcast? First, a web server to host MP3 files. Then a way to create new episodes, add show notes, and a way to generate a valid RSS feed. And finally, a way to publish new episodes, and update the podcast’s RSS feed. Transistor allows you to create, import, and host unlimited podcasts on your account, for one monthly price.

Transistor was founded by two podcasters who have been actively podcasting since 2014. Today, Transistor serves nearly 16,000 podcasts of all types. Their customers include indie podcasters, small businesses, and enterprise companies.

YouTube

YouTube and Video

The first platform new online marketers think of when they are at the stage to market their product or service is Facebook. Facebook has an incredible amount of data points on every one of their users. Some say as many as 50,000. But in the last couple of years advertising costs have risen, accounts have gotten banned for no reason and, if you keep up with the news, Facebook has fallen under government privacy issue investigations.

Many marketers have moved over to Google, which has just as much information, or more, on people as Facebook. But advertising costs have risen at Google as well.

So, the next move by smart marketers is to YouTube, which is owned by Google and is actually the second largest (to Google) search engine in the world. Add the fact that the entire Internet is moving to video, and you have all the reason to focus some of your marketing efforts on YouTube.

74 – TubeSift

I’ve used TubeSift for about five years. Of the several YouTube ad format choices, one of the most effective is “placements”. These are videos that appear before the video searched for that gives the viewer five seconds to skip. Advertisers don’t pay if the viewer doesn’t watch at least 30 seconds of the video. But the most important thing is that the advertisers can place their video right in front of their most targeted audience. So, for example, if you sold cake mixes, one of the most ideal places to put your video would be in front of videos on “how to bake a cake”.

But to compile a large list by hand of video URLs to place your video in front of would take weeks. TubeSift can compile a list of 2,000 relevant URLs in about 20 seconds. That’s why this tool is virtually mandatory for anyone doing YouTube advertising.

75 – Vidalytics

Vidalytics hosts and plays videos on your website. Vidalytics is for marketers who want to know exactly which point of their video is costing them conversions so they can optimize and scale.

This is why Vidalytics is ideal for video sales letters, online course creators, funnel builders, direct response marketers and eCommerce brands.

76 – vidIQ

Creating great content on YouTube is only half the battle to growing views and subscribers. If you want videos to rank well and be discovered by other viewers it’s necessary to know how to research the best keywords to maximize your titles, descriptions, tags and playlists, as well as understanding what your competitors are doing to rank well.

vidIQ is one of the most powerful video marketing tools on the planet, giving every creator the information they need to grow and succeed on YouTube.
